PRESS RELEASE

TuscBDD Celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month All March Long

Beginning the first week of March, TuscBDD employees, local provider agencies, the FANS Network, County Commissioners, and others from our community will begin celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness month. This year, TuscBDD events are a fun and safe way to spread awareness about including people with disabilities in all aspects of community life. “When it comes to inclusion, people often face barriers from limited transportation to just simply feeling included in a space or event,” expressed Kerri Silverthorn, TuscBDD Community Relations/Special Projects Director. “Data from a recent TuscBDD survey highlighted that many people with disabilities in our community do feel included and have opportunities. While that is great news, we know that there is always room to improve. Survey data shows that continuous awareness communication is recognized as a strength of ours here at TuscBDD, and we know that this continuous awareness communication is one factor in helping to enable members of our community to understand, accept, and value their friends and neighbors with disabilities. We want people with disabilities to feel empowered to join in all aspects of community life whether it is where they work or where they hang out, so it is important that we share stories about how that is achieved by people we serve.” TuscBDD asks everyone in the community to join in celebrating.
