The FANS Network of the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities has been working hard to engage the digital community by placing all our events online using a platform called Zoom.  In this uncertain time of COVID-19, TuscBDD understands the need for community and the human connection. Even though we can’t host FANS events in-person, the FANS Network still wants to make sure that everyone can be involved.

The FANS Network has placed Novel Adventures Book Club online by using Zoom and the free library platforms called Hoopla and Libby using your own library card. Please visit Hoopla here: https://www.hoopladigital.com and Libby here: https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby. Members can use an app on their phone or tablet and “borrow” the book our club is reading. The club meets two Fridays a month on Zoom from 4:00 -5:00 pm to discuss the book.

Game Time has also gone virtual using the same Zoom method on Friday once a month from 4-5pm. Members play games such as indoor scavenger hunts and various educational trivia as well as other fun indoor games.

The FANS Network also has a fairly-new online event called Movie Time. This event is free and uses Zoom in collaboration with YouTube Movies. An example of movies we have watched lately are Abominable and the new live-action movies Lion King and Aladdin. The next Movie Time is on Friday, October 30th from 6:00 -8:00 pm. The movie is the 2019 animated Addams Family, and costumes are encouraged! Gather your goodies and FaceTime your friends to watch a movie distanced, but together. You will have the option to use the chat box within Zoom by using your own phone to communicate while you view the picture and audio through screen share. If you have a computer/laptop, smartphone, tablet, or smart TV, you will use the Zoom link provided to connect with the FANS Network.

All the FANS Network activities and events can be found on the following Facebook page: https://bit.ly/TuscFans called the TuscBDD FANS Network Group or by visiting www.tuscbdd.org. Everyone in the community is welcome to join us. If you are nervous about joining because you aren’t sure how to use the technology for any of our clubs or events, I can walk you through the process! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at (330) 407-0950 or email me at fans@tuscbdd.org.
