A Message That Matters: How One Parent’s Words Reminded Us Why We Do What We Do
There’s nothing quite like starting the week with a heartfelt message from a member of our community. On Sunday evening, I received an email from Jamie, a parent whose words about the Special Olympics reminded me why our work at TuscBDD is essential and meaningful.
While TuscBDD doesn’t directly manage the Special Olympics program, we proudly provide both financial and in-person support to help it thrive in our community.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of volunteering and attending Special Olympics events, and I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful these experiences are. Watching athletes lift each other up, learn from one another, and cheer each other on is powerful.
Jamie shared:
I want to express my gratitude for TuscBDD’s support of Special Olympics and the Rockets team. Special Olympics is more than just sports to me; it’s about community, empowerment, and celebrating athletes’ unique abilities. As a coach for softball, track, and basketball, I cherish being part of this program that helps athletes thrive.
I got involved with Special Olympics a few years ago because of my daughter, Anna. She started with swimming but opened up during track last year, winning the Overcoming Obstacles Award. Her joy and growth have been incredible; she truly loves Special Olympics.
This program means a lot to our family. I've met wonderful people and made friends with many parents of athletes. It’s a joy when athletes approach us parents and coaches to share their day. Richelle is an amazing coordinator for Tuscarawas County, and we all admire her dedication. Her daughter Chelsea has a special place in our hearts; her good morning messages brighten my day.
The love and support the athletes receive is incredible, proving they can do amazing things. This program is invaluable to everyone involved—friends, parents, and siblings. My sons both love Special Olympics; my youngest is a unified partner in track, and volunteering helped him through tough times. While the program is for the athletes, it benefits everyone involved. I'm thankful for this amazing program, and TuscBDD’s support helps these amazing athletes to shine.”
I’m so grateful for Jamie’s message—it was a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we support one another. Support isn’t extra. It’s essential.
