PRESS RELEASE

TuscBDD & New Phila City Schools Partner to Maximize Resources

New Philadelphia, July 19, 2016: The Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities (TuscBDD) and New Philadelphia City Schools are happy to announce that the two organizations will partner during the 2016-2017 school-year. Four preschool classrooms previously based out of New Philadelphia's South Elementary will be moved to the Starlight School for the 2016-2017 school-year.

Due to a growing preschool program, New Philadelphia was looking for a new location for the preschool classes located at South Elementary. Upon hearing of this need, representatives from TuscBDD offered space to the district. "Starlight School continues to serve children with developmental disabilities throughout the county through an integrated preschool program and school-age classes," shared Starlight School principal, Holly Lawver. "However, in working with our staff, we were able to condense some of our programming to welcome New Philadelphia City Schools."

"This is really a win-win situation for both organizations," shared TuscBDD's Transitional Assistant Superintendent Nate Kamban. "Starlight School students will be exposed to a larger peer group to increase positive peer-based interaction as well as allowing us to be a good neighbor to a local district." "We are excited about this partnership with TuscBDD," noted New Philadelphia City Schools Superintendent, David Brand. "This partnership provides a cost-effective way for New Philadelphia City Schools to ease space constraints while also allowing our staff to collaborate with staff from TuscBDD's Starlight School." A staff meet and greet barbecue has been planned for August to allow the staff from the schools to get to know each other and prepare for the new school year.
