PRESS RELEASE

TuscBDD Reaffirms Commitment to Fund Individuals with Disabilities Countywide at November Board Meeting

New Philadelphia, December 7, 2017: At the November 2017 regularly scheduled board meeting for the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities (TuscBDD), Board members approved a $2.1 million budget to financially support people living with disabilities who have received Medicaid waivers and are eligible for County Board supports. The $2.1 million payment draws down $8.4 million from Medicaid enabling private providers to serve individuals with disabilities in Tuscarawas County. As a result, private providers are able to provide jobs for approximately 200 employees county-wide. "Each year our Board must allocate money to support people living with developmental disabilities who rely upon a Medicaid waiver," expressed TuscBDD Superintendent, Nate Kamban. TuscBDD serves as the local Medicaid authority and is required to pay approximately 40% of all costs incurred by individuals in Tuscarawas County who qualify and utilize a developmental disability waiver. These dollars are used to support local provider agencies throughout the county who serve people with these waivers. "Due to the community's generous support of the TuscBDD levy, we are able to financially support over 42 private providers with 10 of those receiving over $250,000 in Medicaid funds. These local provider partners include: Adult Developmental Services, Advocates for Success, Bradford Homes, Ember Complete Care, Horizons, Person Centered Services, Starlight Enterprises, Inc., Stepping Stone and several others. "Without the community's support, many people would lose services as they would need to cover the large expenses associated with their loved one's care out of pocket," further noted Kamban.
