Substitute Classroom Assistant
Salary: $12.00 an hour; $15.00 with Teaching Degree
Job Summary:
Under general direction of a certified instructor or specialist: assists in teaching persons with developmental disabilities in approved or adopted curriculum areas; assists in the care of the general welfare of students; assists in preparing and maintaining written records and reports; attends meetings and training sessions when required.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED
Must acquire and maintain an Educational Aide Permit through the Ohio Department of Education
Must hold and maintain a current, valid driver’s license
Must maintain insurability with automobile insurance carriers

Job Description:
Assists and follows the directions of a certified instructor or specialist in providing individual/group instruction to students in accordance with approved and adopted curriculum areas and as identified on each student’s Individual Education Plan.
Carries out assigned duties related to the general welfare of the students (e.g., safety precautions, self-help needs, positioning, feeding, assisting students on/off transportation vehicles, etc.), including the lifting of students and equipment.
Supervises students in the absence of the certified instructor or specialist.
Assists in the preparation/storage of supplies and equipment.
Assists in record keeping associated with the classroom (e.g., taking attendance/lunch count, recording behavioral data, reproducing copies using office equipment, etc.) and assures the confidentiality of all such information.
Participates in staffings, meetings, assigned committees, inservices and conferences/home visits.
Assists with special projects and events, including the transportation of students to and from other locations, where applicable.
Demonstrates the ability to function effectively as a member of an instructional team within the classroom and other instructional settings.
Fosters and supports the philosophy and activities related to self-determination.
Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to collect data and report on student progress.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Follows applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards and Board policies and procedures.
Carries out related duties as requested.
