March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Schedule of events:

March 2nd –Sensory Friendly Movie is being held at the Quaker Cinema located at 158 W. High Avenue, New Philadelphia. The movie will begin at 10:00 a.m. with doors to open no later than 9:30. Snack packages are available for $4.00 that include a small popcorn, small drink and small sized choice of candy. March 6th – Bridges Out of Poverty. This 6 hour training will be held at the SSC building located at 610 Commercial Ave. SW New Phila. from 9 am to 4 pm with 1 hr. for lunch. Bridges Out of Poverty is an interactive training on the effects of poverty and how we can minimize or prevent the negative outcomes to the people we serve and the communities we live in. If you are interested in attending, please contact Chris Sapp at 330-339-9769 or csapp@tuscbdd.org no later than February 28th. There is limited seating so make your reservations soon.

March 7th – Developmental Disabilities Awareness and Advocacy Day at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus Ohio. Attend a presentation ceremony and tour our state capitol building from 8am to 5pm.

March 13th - Talent Show from 11:00 to 1:30 for all county providers being held at J.I.M.'s Place located at 228 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Pizza and water provided for lunch. The doors will be open at 10:30. If you wish to perform, you must go to the registration table upon arriving to give your talent information and receive your line up order. All music should be in CD format. Due to time limitations, only the first 20 people to register will be able to perform so RSVP no later than March 5 by calling Chris Sapp at 330-339-9769 or csapp@tuscbdd.org.

March 15th – STEAM Pop-up Museum at Charmed: Gifts With Meaning located at 117 W. High Ave. New Philadelphia. STEAM is science, technology, engineering, art and math and the museum provides fun and interactive ways to inspire the next generation of innovators. The museum is sensory friendly and fun for the whole family. To RSVP call Teri or Mark at 330-339-3199 no later than March 12.

March 22nd – Community Partners Pancake Breakfast from 7:45 to 9:00 with breakfast being served by TuscBDD staff and friends at 8:00. To be held at Tuscora Park Dining Hall located at 161 Tuscora Ave. NW at New Philadelphia. RSVP by March 13 by calling Chris Sapp at 330-339-9769 or csapp@tuscbdd.org.

March 27th – Special Olympic Basketball team joining with staff members and community members for a good will basketball game starting at 6:00 p.m. at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School located at 777 Third St. NE, New Philadelphia. Doors will be open no later than 5:30. Admission is free but we will be collecting canned goods at the door for donation to local food pantries. All Special Olympians are to contact their basketball coach.

March 29th - Photographers Reception and Photo Sale being held at Charmed: Gifts With Meaning located at 117 West High Avenue, New Philadelphia from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This reception is being held to wrap up a month-long photo contest during the month of February. The contest is a collaboration between TuscBDD and the Tuscarawas County Amateur Photographic Association. Members of the TCAPA will be judging the entries with prizes and honorable mentions being awarded. Photos can be submitted until February 28th. TuscBDD will be decorating the lower level hallway and display cases at the New Philadelphia Public Library for the month of March in celebration of DD Awareness and Advocacy. Crafts and Art pieces will be on display from March 1 until March 29.
